Share Your Movies with Tryst

Finally, high-quality streaming for the rest of us. Using Apple’s revolutionary Rendezvous technology, you can make your movies available on the network for everyone to watch together, or even password protect them for private showings. Broadcast family movies, student films, or class lectures without ever having to worry about multicast addresses, SLP announces, or port numbers: Tryst puts all the power of streaming at the touch of a button.
Tryst handles the complexities of streaming in the background while offering you a wide array of practical choices. Tryst Options Set time delays to give peers the opportunity to discover your movie and “subscribe” to see it. Limit the amount of connections you allow for more intimate screenings or to simply reduce stress on slower networks. Password protect your broadcasts to screen whom sees your movie and whom doesn’t.
Tryst was developed by Francisco Tolmasky, currently a sophomore at the University of Southern California, using Apple’s XCode IDE. Tryst uses the Cocoa frameworks, utilizing Rendezvous to handle the “broadcasting”. The actual streaming is handled by the VLC back end.
Tryst is free application for OS X.
Phrase Express

iAlertU Beta – Car Alarm for Your Apple MacBook

iAlertU is the first of its kind alarm system for your Apple MacBook computer, it is very similar to a traditional car alarm, but for your Mac. iAlertU uses the built in sudden motion sensor (SMS) device to detect movement of your MacBook and triggers an audible and visual alarm.
The alarm can also be triggered by keyboard and mouse/trackpad movement. It is designed to continue sounding even after the MacBook screen has been closed. iAlertU is activated and deactivated using the infrared remote control inlcluded with every MacBook computer. User adjustable settings let you decide which type of alarm triggers you would like to use, the duration of the alarm, and motion sensor sensitivity.
iAlertU also features functionality to utilize the built in iSight camera to photograph the would be thief and soon will be able to email the photo to a user specified email address. Although an active Internet connection would be needed for that functionality…
iAlertU is in Beta stage and is available for free download.
