Optoma has introduced the new HD33 projector – the first more affordable Full HD 1080p 3D DLP projector with HDMI 1.4a stereoscopic 3D support. The HD33 has also been developed in parallel with the company’s new 3D-RF glasses, which use RF (radio frequency) technology and have been specifically designed to maximize brightness & contrast while eliminating the line of sight and synchronization issues commonly experienced with systems using infra-red (IR) emitters. The new glasses are fully rechargeable; the emitter is included with the projector, while the glasses will be sold separately.

The Optoma HD33 supports all the HDMI 1.4a mandatory 3D formats, including both Side-by-Side and Top & Bottom formats, and more. To further enhance 3D compatibility, Side-by-Side and Top & Bottom formats can be manually enabled to allow other non-HDMI 1.4a compatible devices, such as older set top boxes, Xbox360, or PCs, to display 3D via the VGA or HDMI ports. Accordingly, the HD33 offers two HDMI 1.4a ports, one VGA port, as well as connections for component video, composite video, RS-232, a +12V trigger, and a VESA 3D Port. The maximum brightness offered by Optoma HD33 is 1800 ANSI lumens and the contrast ratio is 4000:1, the projection lamp is rated to last up to 4000 hours in standard mode or 3000 hours in bright mode.

The interest in 3D Stereo solutions is continuing to grow lately and one of the products that a lot of people expect is the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W1 digital camera that can record both in 2D and in 3D (still images and movies). The Real 3D W1 camera uses two separate Fujinon lenses along with two 10 megapixel CCD sensors to be able to simultaneously take two images just like the eyes of a normal human see everything. The two images can then be combined into a 3D stereo picture with the help of the RP (Real Photo) Processor 3D or into a 3D stereo video clip with resolution of up to 640×480. On the back of the camera you’ll find a 2.8-inch LCD screen that is capable of displaying both 2D and 3D content so that you will be able to preview the images and videos you shoot without having to worry if they are in 2D or 3D mode. Another interesting feature of the camera, when not shooting in 3D mode is the ability to take two 2D pictures with different settings in order to get the best result without having to take two different pictures one after the other. And you get all that in a compact and a good-looking camera that is very easy to use in taking both 2D or 3D images or even shooting videos…

The bad news is that the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W1 digital camera is still not available and is expected to be released later this year (in September). The price of the digital camera is still not announced, but different sources cite that it should be about 600 US dollars which is not that much if you consider what you’ll be getting. Of course I still cannot say if the product will be that good as we all expect it to be, but soon we’ll probably be able to see for ourselves. Along with the FinePix Real 3D W1 digital camera Fujifilm is going to also release an 8-inch digital 3D photo viewer – FinePix Real 3D V1, but of course you should be able to view the 3D images and videos you take with Nvidia GeForce 3D Vision and other similar products.

The Z800 3DVisor is the world’s first personal display system to combine two OLED microdisplays with stereovision 3D capabilities, stereo audio, a noise-canceling microphone, and an integrated head tracker. The eMagin Z800 3DVisor uniquely provides a view equivalent to a 105-inch screen at twelve feet with 3D capability. Its high-speed head tracker enables full 360-degree virtual-surround viewing.

Color data is buffered under each pixel site, eliminating flicker and smear. If only 2D information is available the Z800 3DVisor still delivers unsurpassed visual quality.

Stereovision 3D
The Z800 3DVisor uses two OLED microdisplays to accomplish this 3D effect with an advanced stereoscopic technique. When a frame-sequential 3D signal is input into the Z800 3DVisor, the Z800 divides the signal so that it alternates between both OLED Microdisplays. Each eye sees a different, but constant, perspective to mimic normal stereoscopic sight, creating a realistic 3D image. Since the OLED Microdisplays refresh so quickly, much faster than your average LCD display, no noticeable flicker is produced. To further eliminate flicker, each display uses analog DRAM to grab and hold information from refresh to refresh, meaning the display never has an opportunity to go black or “decay.” The responsiveness and constant imagery combine to create the best 3D experience on the market today.
Many games on the market do have stereovision 3D compatibility. Many times, this compatibility is not detailed on the game’s packaging. Therefore, eMagin recommends that for specific games you download a demo version or contact the game’s manufacturer. Some examples of compatible games are Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004, Doom 3, Painkiller, Half-Life 2 and America’s Army.

Integrated Headtracker
The Z800 3DVisor’s integrated headtracker uses micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) accelerometers and gyroscopes to detect motion. The headtracker features three gyroscopes, one each for the X-, Y-, and Z-axis. In addition, the headtracker contains corresponding compasses and accelerometers to ensure performance over varying forms of motion.
The Z800 3DVisor comes bundled with mouse emulation software specifically designed for use with the eMagin headtracker. After installation, the program runs in the background and translates detected head motion into motion on your screen. Specialized settings in the bundled software, Windows mouse controls, and special in-game settings can all be used to fine-tune the mouse emulation to your preferences.
