Remote Controlled WowWee Rovio Robot

That thing is an affordable remote controlled robot, no way! WowWee’s new robot toy named Rovio just looks amazing at least on pictures, it is almost like something that just came out form NASA and is designed to explore the space and unknown planets. Actually we are talking about a remote controlled robot designed for patrolling your home while you are gone. The robot has some degree of autonomy, but is designed more in a way to be controller by a human. WowWee Rovio comes equipped with a WiFi connection which allows you control it from anywhere in the world given that you have a web capable mobile phone or a computer with internet connection.

The robot has a built-in web camera that provides high-resolution (640×480 pixels) video along with a microphone and speakers allowing voice interaction with the robot, for instance with your kids at home, while you are away on a business trip for instance. Rovio has a built-in rechargeable battery that allows for about two hours usage and then the robot can find it’s recharging station and go recharge automatically to be ready for more action. There are three wheels supporting the chassis, providing 360 degrees of movement movement freedom, allowing the robot go go almost anywhere around your home, surveying it’s surroundings. You can configure the robot with up to 10 paths for a customized patrol, it will move along each path, detecting and avoiding obstacles with it’s infrared sensor, and repeat the sequence until you give new orders. There are probably even more interesting things about the cool Rovio robot, but we should wait a bit more, until it is made officially available…

Horizon H-cell RC Hobby Integration Kit

The H-cell is a unique integration “upgrade” kit for electric hobby R/C cars, designed as a drop in unit that can fit inside widely available Tamiya TT-01 type chassis. The H-cell system designed by Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies includes a 30W air-cooled, air-breathing and self-humidified PEM fuel cell stack with integrated bright blue light-emitting fans and a sleek aluminum casing.

The integration kit also includes electronic controls, a miniature pressure regulator and three 10L metal hydride canisters in a hydrogen storage “rack”. At maximum power output and with a single charge, the H-cell can run the car at 35 km/h for over 1 hour, as opposed to just 15 minutes with the conventional Nimh battery.

Multiple Socket Power Outlet with a Webserver

Nearly all geeks think about creating some cool hardware project which should be controlled over the internet from time to time. Unfortunately, a continuously running computer consumes very much power and is therefore very expensive. This item can solve this problem:

Infratec PM 221 MIP is a multiple socket outlet that has an ethernet interface and an integrated web server which makes it possible to control two pairs of slave outlets using the WWW or a WAP capable mobile phone. You can also create different users with different rights to control the outlets.

Additionally, there is a master outlet which can detect if the device plugged in is switched on or off. It can then switch on or off the slave devices according to its status. If there is a power breakdown the multiple socket outlet remembers the status of the outlets and switches them on again when the power returns.

Each outlet can handle up to 5 Ampere and the webserver consumes less than 1.5 Watt. The whole outlet has the following dimensions: 60cm x 5,5cm x 6cm. Please notice: If you don’t use the european schuko style plugs you’ll need an adapter.

Remote Controlled Pirate Ship

This is a beautifully detailed galleon complete with full rigging, skull and crossbone bedecked sails, gunnels bristling with canons, and even a “firing” canon in the prow, is if not quite The Black Pearl, at least the coolest and most original RC boat to hit the pond this century. The paintwork is wonderfully detailed and it all looks very rough and rustic, which belies it’s rather zippy turn of speed.

The Remote Controlled Pirate Ship is powered by twin props, there’s a button on the remote that makes the canon rise, emit a sort of banging noise and glow red – it doesn’t actually fire anything as that would probably choke fish and alarm any ducks in the area. At 41cm long it’s a mighty ship, with rigging, sails, gunnels, the whole malarkey – a wonderfully regressive step forward (if that’s at all possible) in RC fun.

PCTx USB PC to R/C Transmitter Interface

By connecting an R/C transmitter to a PC via the PCTx interface, you have the ability to “take control” of an R/C vehicle or robot directly from your PC or laptop.
