Something new straight form Japan – a handmade USB Flash Drive Skull Ring. Yes, you’ve heard it right… these are 2GB USB flash drives in the form of a Skull that attaches to your finger just like a normal ring. It might be a bit strange for everyone’s taste, but if you like skulls and such this might be a perfect addition to your collection. Also a great and somewhat unique thing that is also a great gift idea for a true geek…

The chin of the skull is removable, revealing a normal USB connector for using the 2GB flash storage you’ve got available in the ring. You can choose a USB flash drive skull ring from 8 different color variations, these are: Antique Gold, Antique Silver, Black, Matt Black, Pink, Purple, Silver and Turquoise Blue. All are very detailed and you can consider each of the rings to be unique, because it is hand made, although that is also the reason for their quite high price.

These hand made rings with flash memory are available for $156.

Mimoco’s Vinyl Art Series Flash Drives are really cool looking USB flash drives, although a bit expensive, but there is a reason for that. And now they are available even in a Star Wars themed series, officially licensed of course. Two of your favorite galaxies collided to create four awesome Star Wars mimobot crossover characters – Chewbacca and R2D2 against Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper. All four are a must if you are a true Star Wars fan, but you can settle with even one if your favorite character is among the four models…

The drives are available in 1GB capacity and are preloaded with bonus removable Star Wars mimobot content like exclusive wallpapers, desktop icons, original trailers, and a soundByte application featuring actual audio from the Star Wars saga. They come with a convenient color matching hoodie, making them look even better, so you can carry your Star Wars Mimobot everywhere. Just have in mind that all four characters are limited editions so there are actually just 2,500 to 3,500 units each, so hurry to get yours now.

Each of the Star Wars themed mimobots is priced at $69.

The true Ducatisti as aficionados of Ducati motorcycles call themselves, will appreciate the attention to detail in the SanDisk Extreme Ducati Edition USB Flash Drive, including the Ducati Corse logo on top of the drive and the red tail light that illuminates whenever the drive is inserted into the USB.

On the inside, the drive offers a generous 4 gigabytes (GB) of capacity and front-of-the-pack read and write speeds of 20 megabytes per second – the fastest of the SanDisk portfolio of consumer USB drives. In other words, there isn’t a long wait to fill the drive’s big fuel tank with documents, photos, music and other digital data.

The SanDisk Extreme Ducati Edition USB Flash Drive comes with a custom lanyard, as well as SanDisk’s RescuePRO Deluxe software for recovering data that is accidentally deleted. The drive is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and versions 10.1.2 or better of the Mac operating system.

The drive has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $124.99 in the United States. It is expected to be available in North America and Europe in August, and worldwide in September.

Power Quotient International Co., Ltd. (PQI) officially announced a 256GB SSD Turbo+ DiskOnModule flash-drive that uses Serial ATA interface and 2,5-inch form factor. PQI’s 256GB SSD Turbo+ features transfer rates of up to 60MB/sec and is currently only available as industrial storage option. No product price for end users is yet available and this product itself may not become available to end user.

With growing popularity of flash drive hard drive due to SSD’s shock proof, high stability and low power consumption properties, SSDs have made it’s debut in some of the world’s renown PCs replacing traditional hard drives. Apart from the advantages described, SSDs also have longer average data storage time of 10 years and faster seek times compare to traditional hard drive read / write heads. PQI expects SSD to become the hard drive of the future and in 2008, SSD may replace up to 30% of traditional hard drive market.

Samsung Electronics that it has developed a 1.8″-type 64 Gigabyte (GB) flash-solid state drive (SSD).
The new flash-SSD is based on an eight gigabit (Gb) single-level-cell (SLC) NAND, which provides significantly higher performance over conventional SSDs.

The read and write performance of the new SLC flash-SSD have been increased by 20 percent and 60 percent respectively over the 32GB flash-SSD Samsung introduced last year, meaning that the new SSD’s ability to outperform conventional rotating-media hard drives is even greater than had been anticipated.

The flash-SSD, a drop-in replacement for a hard disk drive, is a secure and reliable means of storing personal or work-related data. It uses instantly-accessible, non-moving NAND flash memory instead of the noisier, power-hungry, jarring-sensitive rotating disc found in conventional hard drives, allowing it to upload and download data quickly and quietly with minimal power consumption.

The new 64GB Flash SSD weights just 15 grams and should be able to provide up to 64MB/s read speed and to be able to reach 45MB/s speed when writing data. The power consumption is going to be between 0.1 and 0.5W, depending on the load of the drive when used.

Samsung plans to start mass production of the 1.8-inch 64GB flash-SSDs in the second quarter of this year.

Kingston Technology announced the global availability of its new DataTraveler ReadyFlash USB 2.0 Flash drive for use in Windows Vista-based systems. Enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost, the Kingston DataTraveler ReadyFlash (DTR) was designed and tested by Kingston based on precise performance requirements outlined by Microsoft to meet Microsoft specifications. DataTraveler ReadyFlash is a USB 2.0 Flash drive enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost; when connected to a Windows Vista-based system’s USB 2.0 port, the Windows Vista AutoPlay dialog box will offer the option of using the device for Windows ReadyBoost.

While adding system memory is the best way to increase performance, Windows ReadyBoost allows one’s system to utilize a memory source in addition to DRAM for processing data and applications. For instance, if a notebook has a maximum memory capacity of 1 GB installed, Windows ReadyBoost allows for usage of a Flash memory device, such as DataTraveler ReadyFlash as a more responsive storage medium for Windows ReadyBoost cache.

Features/Specifications
- Capacities: 1 GB, 2 GB
- Dimensions: 2.67″ x 0.829″ x 0.355″ (67.7mm x 20.8mm x 9.0mm)
- Windows ReadyBoost performance: Exceeds the minimum Windows ReadyBoost performance requirements
- Convenient: Pocket-sized for easy transportability
- Simple: Just plug into a USB 2.0 port
- Guaranteed: Five-year warranty
