Pentax Optio W20 – A Waterproof Digital Camera

Optio W20 is a compact digital camera featuring excellent waterproof performance with a slim, flat body design. The W20 camera is fully capable of underwater photography without requiring a waterproof case or other accessories. The waterproof design of the Optio W20 meets the JIS Class 8 waterproof standard, enabling it to withstand up to 30 minutes of continuous operation at an underwater depth of up to five feet. The Optio W20 also meets the JIS Class 5 dustproof standard, and is ideal for use skiing, marine sports, fishing, and enjoying other outdoor events.

The Optio W20 includes a 3X optical zoom lens that covers focal lengths from 6.3 to 18.9 mm (equivalent to 38 to 114 mm for 35mm film) and features a ???‚??folding???‚?? optical system so the lens never protrudes from the camera while zooming. The 7.0 effective megapixels produces extremely high-quality prints with crisp detail even when the photo is greatly enlarged.

The Optio W20 comes with a 2.5 inch LCD monitor that is easy to view even in sunny outdoor conditions. The LCD cover is finished with a non-glare coating and features adjustable LCD backlight strength. The camera also has a Power Saving mode that automatically dims the backlight to save battery power.

The Pentax Optio W20 will be available in September with a price of under $300.

Sony GPS-CS1 GPS

Sony Electronics announced a compact and lightweight, 12-channel GPS device for use in conjunction with their digital cameras. Using time and location recordings from Sony’s GPS-CS1 GPS device and the time stamp from a Sony digital still camera or camcorder you can plot the digital images to a map and pinpoint exactly where they’ve been taken.

To arrange your pictures geographically, you need to import the logged data from the GPS device, using the supplied USB cable, and then download the digital images to a computer. The supplied GPS Image Tracker software synchronizes the images on your digital camera with the latitude, longitude and time readings from the GPS-CS1 device.

Once synchronized, your photos can become virtual push pins on an online map by activating the Picture Motion Browser software bundled with the latest Sony cameras and camcorders released after July. You can easily add new photos and coordinates to the mapping web site, courtesy of Google Maps, and showcase years of globe-trotting.

The Sanyo VPC-CA6 Xacti Digital Media Camera records both 6 megapixel still images and 640×480 resolution digital video in a weather resistant compact design. It combines the functionality of a digital camera and a digital camcorder. Different than a standard digital camera that shoots short video clips, the VPC-CA6 combines the functionality of both a digital camera and a digital camcorder in one small, lightweight camera. Splash-proof water resistance makes it practical to point and shoot even around the pool or at the beach. It’s also rugged enough to safely take photos or shoot video with wet hands while fishing, hiking, boating, skiing or enjoying many other outdoor leisure activities. While remarkably water resistant, the CA6 should never be immersed in water.

2″LED Screen

The Xacti CA6 enables simultaneous shooting of 6-megapixel still images and 640 x 480-pixel video clips with a simple press of the shutter button during the shooting of a movie clip. Users will never need to miss another precious photo opportunity. (Depending on the mode used to take still images, simultaneous video clip shooting may be interrupted. While shooting video clips, using the digital image stabilizer may change the angle of view for still images.)

The SANYO Xacti CA6 comes with a sophisticated image stabilizer. Using a proprietary SANYO algorithm, the CA6 automatically compensates for distracting up-and-down or side-to-side camera movement, keeping your subject steady and easy to follow. 5x Optical Zoom Lens
