GOM Media Player

This Korean freeware media player grabbed my attention because of its simplicity of installation and use, packing at the same time more than enough features. It works like a charm for all the novice users, but also offers a lot of advanced features for advanced users (almost everything that Media Player Classic has and even a few additional options).

The best part is that GOM Player supports most of the codecs (AVI, DAT, MPEG, DivX and lots more) by its own embedded codec system, so you don’t have to look for appropriate codecs every time when you can’t play a certain video format or install any codec before or after the player is installed. Of course if you need to play some very exotic file format you’ll have to install the appropriate codec for it.

Another cool part in this player is the ability to play broken or incomplete AVI video files. Or in other words you can preview the downloaded part of a file and not have to wait for it to be completed in order … [ Read the rest of the story ]

360 degree Panoramas with Panoramer

Posted by Anton on August 12th, 2006

Panoramer allows the viewing of 360 degree panoramas in your mac, making your screen look as a virtual window to the sight. It also lets you add a real enviroment rotation simulation to the panoramas with the help of an orientation tracker from Intersense. An orientation tracker is a device that delivers to the computer its 3D orientation (yaw, pitch & roll).

In Panoramer application, having the tracker placed behind your screen, it will keep track of it’s orientation and show the panoramic just if the screen was a window to the virtual world. This way, if the screen is moved, the panorama that is shown will also be rotated in the same way the screen is. Of course, panoramer can be used without an orientation tracking device, just using the arrow keys of your keyboard. Most portable MACs come with one, but it’s not sensible enough for this kind of application.

Qliner hotkeys is a free and open source keyboard productivity environment. It is the first product of it’s kind that is usable by computer geeks and non geeks alike.

Hotkeys builds on the concept of Windows shortcut keys but takes this concept to a whole new level. Do you think key combinations are hard to remember? Just hold the Windows key for three seconds and up pops a Onscreen Keyboard with icons on the keys that are configured. This you can use , not only to remind you of hotkey combinations, but also for Drag and Drop Configuration.

This small Windows program allows you to set transparent windows of any program running in Windows 2000 or XP, unfortunately it does not currently work for Windows 98 and below. The ability to make transparent the window of any of the running applications allows you to be more productive with numerous windows open at once, even on a smaller display. It also makes your desktop looks way cooler than usual… ;)

Chaos Crystal allows you to change the level of transparency of each window form 0 to 255 (fully transparent to fully non-transparent). It can be run from any location including removable devices such USB flash memory and doesn’t require installation. You can run it from anywhere on your computer as well.
