Otpoma HD33 is an Affordable Full HD 1080p 3D DLP Home Theater Projector

Optoma has introduced the new HD33 projector – the first more affordable Full HD 1080p 3D DLP projector with HDMI 1.4a stereoscopic 3D support. The HD33 has also been developed in parallel with the company’s new 3D-RF glasses, which use RF (radio frequency) technology and have been specifically designed to maximize brightness & contrast while eliminating the line of sight and synchronization issues commonly experienced with systems using infra-red (IR) emitters. The new glasses are fully rechargeable; the emitter is included with the projector, while the glasses will be sold separately.

The Optoma HD33 supports all the HDMI 1.4a mandatory 3D formats, including both Side-by-Side and Top & Bottom formats, and more. To further enhance 3D compatibility, Side-by-Side and Top & Bottom formats can be manually enabled to allow other non-HDMI 1.4a compatible devices, such as older set top boxes, Xbox360, or PCs, to display 3D via the VGA or HDMI ports. Accordingly, the HD33 offers two HDMI 1.4a ports, one VGA port, as well as connections for component video, composite video, RS-232, a +12V trigger, and a VESA 3D Port. The maximum brightness offered by Optoma HD33 is 1800 ANSI lumens and the contrast ratio is 4000:1, the projection lamp is rated to last up to 4000 hours in standard mode or 3000 hours in bright mode.

OCZ NIA – Neural Impulse Actuator

OCZ Neural Impulse Actuator (NIA) is an innovative device that allows you to control games and practically everything on your computer with your brain or more exactly with your thoughts and not only by them. You should have in mind that the NIA is not a complete replacement for your mouse or keyboard, but an additional accessory that can give you better control of your PC, but you may still need to use additional controllers for better functionality. What the Neural Impulse Actuator actually does is to translate electrical biosignals of your body directly into computer commands… these include brainwaves, eye and muscle movements. You can combine the readings of multiple bio signals by building a custom game profile so that a given thought can be translated to the PC as a fire command in the game (simulating the pressing of the left mouse button for instance). The NIA comes with some predefined profiles that will allow you to start learning how to use the device and then you can extend and make your own gaming profiles to achieve the best results.

You should have in mind that NIA is not an easy device to master, it will take you a lot of time and effort to learn how to adequately use the device at first, because it is something new and not as straightforward as a mouse or keyboard that requires just to press a given button. So controlling your PC with your thoughts is not as easy as you think, because you’ll have to learn to control the alpha and beta brainwaves that the device detects in a way, that they can be used for movement of your character in a game for instance. And that is the hardest part of learning to use the device, because gaining control of the eye and muscle movement detection by the device will require you just a few hours, but for the brainwaves functionality it could take you up to a few weeks.

For the moment OCZ NIA works just fine under Windows XP and Vista, but only in the 32-bit versions of these operating systems. There are already beta drivers available for 64-bit Vista OS, but if you are running 64-bit Windows XP you’ll not be able to use the NIA, so have that in mind before ordering the device. Also you should know that some users are experiencing problems with the device related to inadequate grounding of their computers or electromagnetic interferences, but these issues usually can be quickly solved by some reading and experimenting with the device. After all NIA is a the first very affordable commercial brain computer interface and you should be prepared for some unexpected things to happen, because that area of development is still quite new, but that makes the usage of the device even more fun and interesting, provided that you are willing to take that additional time. If you are not ready to experiment using this new cool gadget you better wait for some more time or just stick to using your mouse and keyboard for now…

This way you can breathe a new life to your old high-end Pentium (preferably) processor that still packs some punch and not having to trow it away or give it to someone. TrekStor Wireless SoundBox Speakers

The German company TrekStor showed of quite an interesting product at IFA, we are talking about an upgradeable wireless sound system called the Wireless SoundBox. The system is using a small audio transmitter in the form of a USB stick that transfers your favorite digital music noise-free (using 2,4 GHz radio frequency) from the PC to the Wireless SoundBox’s loudspeakers. The transmitter and the loudspeakers can be up to 25 meters apart, meaning you can place the speakers in any room at home or in the office. The compact stereo loudspeakers also have individual volume control, power button and a line-in connection for MP3 players or other audio sources for direct connection to the speaker. The Wireless SoundBox is powered by 4 batteries (when in wireless mode) which can last for up to 12 hours of music playback, and you can always switch the speakers to be powered by USB connection, although you’ll still need to use cables for that. It would have been a nice idea to include rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that could be charged by plugging the speaker to a USB connector, but maybe that will be available in the next version.

The speakers come with a very attractive look and compact size, providing up to a 0.5W each and weighting about 140 grams each (without the four batteries), which should be more than enough to provide you with good and loud enough sound for home or small office use. The good thing is that after you get the starter kit, which consists of a speaker and the transmitter you can add up to 20 speakers later on using the same USB transmitter to provide them with a signal, so the sound system remains quite open and upgradable.

The Wireless SoundBox Starter Set, including a transmitter and a loudspeaker box, is available for about $70. Every additional loudspeaker will cost you additional $45. The Wireless SoundBox is expected to be available for sale in the next month (October).
